Steve & Kate’s Camp started in 1980 and uses a camp model where kids plan their own days and choose their own activities. The program states that all-inclusive rates include all camp hours from 8:00am to 6:00pm, snacks and lunch, and any activities that interest the child. Families can buy any number of days and send their child to camp on any day within the season, with drop-off and pick-up allowed at any time during camp hours. The camp offers automatic full refunds for unused purchased Day Passes at the end of the season, and if a Summer Pass is underused, the difference versus the daily rate is automatically refunded. The mission of Steve & Kate’s Camp is to give kids freedom in the summer by letting them choose which activities they do, whom they do them with, and for how long, as a contrast to rigid structure during the rest of the year. The Mentorship Program at this camp location is intended exclusively for children ages 14–15 for Summer 2026, and mentees help facilitate camp activities, engage with campers, and help encourage camper connection and participation through a self-directed learning model. Returning Mentees pay $0 for the Mentorship Summer Pass. For the week of June 22–26, weekly specials include a 5in1 Malibu Splash Bounce House Combo on Monday and Tuesday, Silent Disco on Monday and Tuesday from 10:00–11:30, and Water Play/Foam Party on Wednesday from 1:30–3:00. For Water Play and Foam Party, campers are asked to bring a labeled swimsuit, towel, and water. As it gets closer to summer, registered families receive a virtual camp orientation with information about what to bring and not bring. The camp describes itself as a place where kids are empowered, independent, resilient, and responsible for their own decisions. It also notes that it operates more than 90 summer camp locations and that its model was founded so kids could be in charge of their choices while parents could buy any number of day passes, attend camp any time, and receive automatic refunds for unused passes. Testimonials about Steve & Kate’s Camp include comments from Andrew Stanton, Director of WALL-E, Finding Nemo, and Finding Dory, who says that children at the camp “blossom and discover a freedom of identity” and that “kids find their thumbprint at Steve & Kate’s.” Apple’s Hot News states, “If kids ruled the world, it might look something like Steve and Kate’s Camp.” Variety magazine notes that many children of people working at Pixar and Industrial Light & Magic attend, and The Washington Post describes the camp as blending a traditional camp experience with a modern, tech-focused approach. The Chicago Tribune states that “working parents’ worries dissipate as they contemplate Steve & Kate’s model.” Last updated April 30, 2026.
