United Studios of Self Defense Belmont has been described as a pillar of the Belmont community for 30 years and notes 27 years of the highest quality martial arts instruction. Every USSD Instructor was first an accomplished USSD student and is trained from white belt within the USSD self-defense system, and all instructors participate in weekly training sessions with a Master Instructor. USSD Chief Instructors and Masters from across the country gather each month at the United Studios National HQ in Southern California to train and develop new skills and methods of teaching.

The program states that the core philosophy of USSD Martial Arts training is non-violence and that training enables students to respond in a calm and controlled way that will stop, rather than escalate, violence if violence is unavoidable. It lists core values of Effort, Etiquette, Character, Sincerity, and Self Control, and notes that the practice of martial arts, when done properly and under the guidance of a professional USSD Instructor, is described as safer than most school sports. Specialized Training Sessions are described as developed to ensure that every student learns in an environment best suited for them, with a focused learning approach where students hone their strengths and shore up their weaknesses, and the program is tailored to fit the needs of the individual student instead of molding the student to fit the art.

The program states that students advance at their own pace, without the pressure that is often such a part of team sports. It notes that 1 Person Sessions are reserved for students with special circumstances who may need individual attention, 2 Person Sessions pair students with a partner of near age, skill, and/or rank, and 3 Person Sessions are recommended for advanced students to develop multi-opponent sparring, defensive maneuvers, and better critical thinking for self defense. United Studios of Self Defense Belmont has been recognized as “BEST KARATE SCHOOL 5 YEARS IN A ROW!” by the Belmont Award Program, which honors local businesses that impact their community in a meaningful way.
