About

Young At Heart Theatre is a program where children take part in acting, voice, and dance, along with set design, training, and performance. The program also offers a summer camp that focuses on these theatre activities.

Young At Heart Theatre was founded in Los Angeles, California in 1980. The program is designed to bring arts education to children of all ages, interests, and backgrounds and was founded on the idea that every child should have access to arts education. It gives students the space to learn all aspects of theatre with training and performance and is described as a place of inclusivity for all community, families, and artists who want to be involved. The program states that theatre builds confidence, community, and strength, and that the arts help heal trauma and build resilience, which it notes is needed in Sonoma County.

The leadership team includes Katie Watts-Whitaker as Executive and Artistic Director, Kelly Butler Considine as Music Director and Instructor, Tyler Anthony as Instructor, Dennis Whitaker as Director of Marketing and Technology, Mary Watts as Director of Operations, and Gloria Watts as Founder. Katie Watts-Whitaker is a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Pasadena, California, and earned a B.A. in English Literature from California State University Northridge, where she studied Creative Writing. Kelly Butler Considine has been teaching music in Sonoma County for 20 years, has a B.A. in music education and a teaching credential, and is a full-time music teacher at Tomales Elementary School and Bodega Bay School, teaching preschool through 8th grade music. Tyler Anthony graduated from Santa Rosa Junior College with a theater arts degree. Mary Watts holds a B.A. in Political Science from San Francisco State University and a Masters in Public Administration from Sonoma State. Gloria Watts earned a B.A. in Theatre in 1969 from California State University Northridge and received the “Women In Theatre Los Angeles” award in 2007 for her lifelong dedication to bringing arts to children and the community.
