Petaluma Wildlife Museum's Summer Camp and Animal Care Apprentice Camp
Petaluma Wildlife & Natural Science Museum, 201 Fair St, Petaluma, CA 94952

Welcome to our fun and educational summer camp program! In 2019, the PWM Summer Camp was re-structured with new and innovative ideas to engage and enthrall children between the ages of 5-12 years old. In 2026, campers can once again look forward to participating in fun-filled weeks of COOL animal interactions, educational games/activities, art and crafts, and special guest presenters. Our Summer Camp curriculum for 5-12 year olds will include learning about the history of the museum; animal care and handling; wildlife preservation, conservation and ecology; and will also incorporate relevant animal themes and activities correlating with the availability of our amazing guest presenters.
The following are just a few of the activities that will be offered each week:
- Gardening and woodwork
- Outdoor projects and activities
- Arts and crafts
- Field games
- Puzzles, board games, activities
- Science-based activities and investigations
- Guest presenters
And in-line with an emergent curriculum, we anticipate there to be many MANY more child-inspired ‘special’ projects…!
Every day campers can look forward to handling and caring for the museum animals under the close supervision of our Live Animal Curator, trained student docents, and amazing camp counselors.

In addition to the academic lessons of wildlife conservation and preservation, our students learn and practice all aspects of small animal husbandry, landscaping, facilities maintenance, public speaking, fundraising, project development and execution, and community service. By the time our students graduate from our program, they will have gained up to three years of leadership, team-building, and public speaking experience, learned first-hand the value of community service and power of empathy, and, hopefully, a gained a circle of friends and compiled an emotional scrapbook of memories that will last them a lifetime.
