About
Lindsay Learners Summer Camps offer a variety of engaging activities for participants. Campers have the opportunity to observe sea creatures in touch tanks, kayak in Morro Bay, and learn about local sea otters and elephant seals. They also spend a day at sea on the Patriot Sportfishing boat and attend presentations on careers in oceanography, fisheries, marine ecology, marine conservation, and aquaculture.
• Ages: 14–18 years old
• Location: Cal Poly, Santa Rosa Creek Foundation
The program is led by a team including Nikki Adams, a Cal Poly biological science professor and program manager, and Jenny Cruz, a Learn by Doing Lab Instructor. It is a partnership between Lindsay High School, Cal Poly, and the Santa Rosa Creek Foundation, providing exposure to marine science and college life for historically underrepresented students. Testimonials highlight the program's impact, with Marissa Bills noting the excitement of getting kids into nature and Nikki Adams emphasizing the new appreciation campers gain for careers in marine science.
