2026 Class Description
The goal of this class is to have students gain fluency and confidence with their arithmetic and numeracy skills, all while having fun and being creative with numbers. Students will leave with skills that they can apply in their future math classes.
- Week 1: Multiplication Magic - We will explore the beauty of multiplication. There’s not just one way to do it. How do children in other countries multiply? Why is 8x15 the same as 4x30?
- Week 2: The Power of Estimation - We will practice our estimation skills since it is a great skill that can be applied quickly and save us from making silly errors.
- Week 3: Binary System - We use a decimal system as our number system, which is also called Base 10. We will explore the binary system and talk about how it’s used with computers.
- Week 4: Pre-Algebra Fun - Students will do puzzles that will build skills for algebra, such as getting them ready for writing equations and factoring.
When time permits, we will also play math games, do some number tricks, and do some art projects using math.
PREREQUISITE: Students should know their 1-12 times tables and should have been exposed to multii-digit multiplication (for example, 36 x 97).
