Sonoma Community Center - Queer Art Club
Sonoma Community Center, 276 East Napa Street, Sonoma, CA 95476
Queer Art Club is a dedicated space for LGBTQIA+ youth and allies ages 12-17 years old to engage with different art forms, find their artistic voice through self expression, and build community with other LGBTQIA+ youth and allies.
This Queer Art Club project is offered in a 3-month format to deepen learning and experience with the art form, with each class meeting monthly every third Wednesday from 6-8pm.
An introduction to Ceramics! From greenware to finished ceramic, participants in Queer Art Club will learn the fundamentals of working with clay. Split into 3 classes over 3 months, we will start on the first day with exploring wet clay and expanding ideas of ‘the pinch pot’ and coil-building into bodily form. The second class we will introduce and apply glaze to our pieces as well as talk about the different methods of firing clay into ceramics. Our last meeting will be a show&tell and demonstration on some ‘cold-finish’ techniques. Through this introduction, students will experience the transformative quality of clay and understand the methods to craft their own ceramic artwork.
