Kids and Teen Cooking Classes and Camps offers cooking classes, cooking camps, baking camp, family cooking classes, summer cooking camp, teen cooking camp, teen baking camp, and a Culinary Boot Camp. The program also offers sushi classes, Knife Skills classes, homemade breads classes, wine and spirits classes, private cooking events, hands-on family classes, outdoor grilling events, and mix and mingle events. All tools and ingredients are provided, so children do not need to bring supplies or food with them.

The Chopping Block has been teaching people how to cook for nearly three decades, was founded in 1997, expanded to Lincoln Square in 2003, and is now solely in Lincoln Square. Its mission is to inspire people to cook by offering cooking classes, wine and spirits classes, private cooking events, and curated culinary products. The Chopping Block describes itself as Chicago’s premier recreational cooking school, and also as Chicago’s premiere recreational cooking school. Professional chefs lead classes, boot camps, and private events, including Owner/Executive Chef Lisa Counts and Founder Shelley Young, along with Chef Instructors David Wieseneck, Dionna Israel, Drake Mandrell, Elexis Ruiz, Gram Gould, Kelly Kijak, Sara Salzinski (also Curriculum Coordinator), and William Haskin (also Kitchen Operations Manager). Staff credentials include training at schools such as Kendall College, California Culinary Academy, Schoolcraft College, Wayne State University, the Culinary Institute of America, Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts, and the French Pastry School, with several chefs cooking professionally since the 1990s and 2000s.

Families and teens have shared that kids and teens enjoyed baking camp, summer cooking camp, teen cooking camp, teen baking camp, and a family cooking class. Parents report that camps were well organized for each day, that kids had great participation in what they made, that families prepared dishes together in the family cooking class, and that participants brought home delicious treats and recipes. Multiple parents stated that their children would like to take more classes at The Chopping Block and highly recommend the teen baking camp.
