About

IDEAS Summer Camps offers a mix of daily swimming, including instructional and open swim, along with activities such as rock wall, dunk tank, robotics, coding, esports, traditional sports, EXERGAMES, arts, digital media, and design. Campers take part in specific themed experiences like Star Wars Jedi Academy, Incredible Inventors, Artful Antics, Crazy Chemical Reactions, Amazing Flying Objects, Escape Room Challenge, Ultimate Drone Racing, Robot X Games, StemQuest, Artful Adventures, Amazing Improv, Fiber Arts Frenzy, Roblox, Minecraft, and an interactive playground. The program includes 2–3 sports or games per day, drone racing and teaching young kids to fly drones, and opportunities to program robots, with plenty of screen breaks built into the day.

• Ages: 3–13 years old

Since 1997, IDEAS Summer Camps has been delivering creative summer camps nationwide to more than 300,000 students and describes its camp model as a “20+ year award-winning camp model.” The program is described as a traditional day camp for grades Pre-K to 2 and an innovative art, science, and technology-based program for grades 3–8, with new weekly themes that include technology, engineering, sports, arts, innovation, movement, and digital media such as Roblox and Minecraft. IDEAS Summer Camps states that campers engage in discovery-based activities and hands-on projects with real world application, teamwork, robotics, design, coding, digital arts, programming, sports, technology immersion, collaboration, and life skills, and that campers develop confidence, self-expression, empathy, self-esteem, and interpersonal skills.

IDEAS Summer Camps reports that its staff are adult-led instructors with an average camper-to-counselor ratio of 6:1, and that it hires professionals already working in education or individuals in college or postgraduate programs on track to work in education. All team members undergo extensive training and full background checks, including State and Federal criminal background checks (CORI, SORI, FBI fingerprints and full background checks) and a series of in-depth interviews with the Director of Talent and Hiring Department. Each instructor receives online training, webinar training, and on-location training before the first day of camp, and the program also describes its preparation as a “30+ hour pre-camp training program.” IDEAS Summer Camps describes its staff screening as a 360° background check and notes that extended care and flexible curbside service are included, with snack included for Day Camp (ages 3–6) and Extended Care.

The program notes that weekly enrollment is limited overall and per age group for safety and quality, and that all experience levels are welcome. IDEAS Summer Camps describes the camp as safe, interactive, fun, and innovative, with a traditional camp feel combined with project-based, collaborative, hands-on activities and plenty of time outside and away from screens. A Family Orientation is held in early June where camp directors and instructors are available to meet parents and campers.

Parent testimonials describe children wanting to return week after week for new themes, being highly interested compared with other camps, and being excited about the combination of traditional and STEM activities and time spent outside and not behind a screen all day. Parents mention daily instructional swimming as a huge asset, 4-year-old twins learning in the pool, and campers being eager to arrive each day, sometimes setting alarms and not wanting to leave aftercare. One parent notes that their child is now teaching neighborhood kids how to race drones and that most of the program was outside. Instructor testimonials highlight the curriculum for technology and STEM, including teaching young kids to fly drones and program robots, and describe the training and support as improving their ability to teach technology in their own classrooms. Columbus School for Girls announces a partnership with IDEAS Summer Camps to offer a wide array of traditional camp programs with a new theme each week for boys and girls ages 3½ to 12, complementing the school’s existing CSG Summer Academy academic and leadership programs.
