Air Camp offers hands-on experiential learning at aviation and technology locations, where students investigate and apply the physics of flight. The program includes immersive and hands-on learning modules at a variety of STEM locations related to key components of aviation and aeronautics. Participants also critically explore accessible and lucrative STEM education and career opportunities in the aviation and aeronautics fields.

Air Camp describes its mission as a hands-on, educational adventure in aviation and aeronautics that uses aviation and aerospace as the medium for learning more about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) while promoting the values of scholarship, leadership, and citizenship. Air Camp states that it is the vision of Dayton-area leaders who want to help young people nationwide achieve their potential, develop critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, and pursue further education and future careers in STEM-related fields, aviation, and aeronautics. Air Camp has provided STEM learning fun since a meeting of community leaders in December 2006, with the first Air Camp launched in July 2010, the first official Teachers Air Camp experience launched on September 25, 2015, and the first official high school event launched in summer 2021.
The leadership team includes Dr. Jesse Steiner as Executive Director, Shannon Coblentz as Director of Operations, Kimberly (Kim) Hume as Operations Manager, Amanda Coomer as Manager of Finance and Donor Relations, and Christina Davis as Manager of Educational Programming. Dr. Steiner has over 30 years of experience in education, including 14 years as a school superintendent, and his work has included leading aerospace programming and partnering with Embry-Riddle University and State Representative Bernie Willis to launch an Aerospace Program. Shannon Coblentz has over fifteen years of involvement in educational endeavors for young learners and has served as a teacher and principal at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Kim Hume worked for the United States Air Force for 21 years in roles including Systems Analyst, Logistics Manager, Program Manager, and Contracting Officer, and received the Air Force Exemplary Civilian Service Award Medal. Amanda Coomer spent 15 years at a public accounting firm in Dayton, Ohio, providing assurance and business consulting services, and is a Certified Public Accountant. Christina Davis spent 15 years teaching math, engineering, and science, including AP Chemistry and AP Physics, has served as a STEM Fellow at the Dayton Regional STEM Center, has advised extracurricular STEM programs such as Femineering, Team America Rocket Challenge (TARC), and Science Bowl, and is an active member of the aviation community, including co-owning a WWII-era T-6 “Texan” Flight and Training business and a Mooney.
Air Camp notes that it collaborates with innovative partners, is a co-sponsor of FAA ACE Academy, and uses key STEM locations throughout the Dayton Region and Greater Dayton Area. The program offers three unique STEM Day Camps in early 2026 for middle and high school students, a Teachers Air Camp for grades K–12 with multi-day events and one-day professional development opportunities open to teacher applicants from across the country, and an Air Masters Competition for students in grades 9–12. It also offers programs for students entering grades 4–6 to explore the history and evolution of aviation and experience principles that made controlled flight possible, events up to 6 days for students entering grades 7–9 with overnight camps at a college or university within the Greater Dayton Area, and events up to 4 days for students entering grades 10–12 with overnight events at a college or university within the Greater Dayton Area.
