About
Portland Preschool of the Arts offers a wide range of hands-on activities, including dance parties, group sing-alongs, group games, and many different art projects. Children take part in activities such as sculpting clay gnomes and clay bugs, painting rocks, creating galaxy paintings and shooting star collages, making space play dough and solar system necklaces, and exploring constellations. The program also includes projects like designing bug costumes, drawing pirate maps, designing mermaid necklaces and tails, making handmade treasure chests and sensory bottles that mimic the movement of the ocean, creating colorful splatter paintings and whimsical landscape illustrations, making play-food and collage work, experimenting with pastels, watercolors, and papier-mâché, and creating items such as sock horses, a clay cactus, fairy dust snow globes, castles, potion sensory bottles, and animal collages.
Camp days include indoor artmaking activities and outdoor-action time on a large lawn, and each week of camp takes a deep dive into a different theme with magical thematic art. Additional activities include decorating garden beds, making plant markers, designing a pair of garden gloves, making natural inks and crafting paintbrushes, creating a cyanotype print, listening for different bird calls, making a plant rubbing, panning for gold, designing a horseshoe toss, decorating a cowboy boot, and creating an animal sidekick. The program also offers Date Nights where kids make art, eat pizza and popcorn, watch movies, and get their wiggles out, as well as private parties in an indoor, private space equipped with decorations and a balloon house. Children must be potty trained to be enrolled in any of the programs.
