About
Summer at Delphian is a residential summer camp program where students take part in activities such as athletics, science, art, archery, animation, boat building, ceramics, theater arts, camping, rafting, beach trips, and sightseeing. Over 250 courses and classes are offered each summer, and students can get ahead or brush up in specific school subjects.
• Ages: 8–18 years old
• Schedule: Summer students arrange their four to six-week summer program based on the schedule that works best for them.
Summer at Delphian offers six weeks of summer camp on campus every year in a four to six week summer program format. Weekend adventures make use of Oregon’s summer climate and the cultural and scenic resources of the Pacific Northwest, and trips are subject to change to on-campus trips based on travel and safety guidelines. Students are introduced to a uniquely effective study method developed by L. Ron Hubbard, and in one summer a young person can learn how to study any subject.
Delphian School is a K–12 independent, co-educational international day and boarding school. Delphian has spent forty years developing and refining a unique curriculum, and its unique curriculum and approach to education is based on L. Ron Hubbard's educational philosophy and Study Technology. The Delphi Program® begins with core academic subjects such as literature, math, science, languages, history, and the arts, and then expands into subjects such as communication, ethics and integrity, leadership, logic, and human rights. The Delphian program requires both academic and practical work to meet graduation requirements, and all students are involved in hands-on experiences that connect their studies to real life, with a practical program that encourages students to use the subject they are learning while they are learning it. Delphian's literature program includes a wide range of literary works that broaden students’ views and understanding of the world's cultures and civilizations.
The school’s mission is to empower young adults to bring positive change in the world through reason, creativity and integrity. The leadership team includes Head of School Trevor Ott, Assistant Head of School Mark Siegel, Head of Admissions Bridgette Rappoport, Head of Co-Curricular Erin Lequin, Head of Administration Linnea Silver, and Head of Finance Evanie Hamilton Hansen. Students at Delphian average 7 hours of community service per week.
Parent and student comments about Delphian and Summer at Delphian include: “The Summer at Delphian program helped my daughter find the joy of learning again” (E.H., parent) and “This is my fourth Summer at Delphian and every summer I become even more interested and fascinated by science. The courses challenge me and push me out of my comfort zone and I learn oodles of information from them that fascinate me” (C.B., student). Alumni and students have also said, “Delphian gave me the chance to lead, and most importantly, to fail as a leader” (Korbin Springer, 2014), “There is a specific sense of personal ethics, responsibility, teamwork, and specifically leadership that Delphian teaches, which other schools do not” (Margaux Delomez, 2010), and “Doing the Leadership course as a student gave me actual data and a method to move forward with the things I cared about productively” (Christine Anderson, 2002). Other comments include “From day one, Delphian encouraged and supported my interests” (Jem Schofield, 1990), “Delphian did a great job encouraging the idea of ‘you be you’ and not letting yourself get talked out of that” (Penda Osborne, 2017), and “My forte, and I think Delphian had a lot to do with it, was to be able to go into my life very sure of myself” (Sean Wiggins, 1982). Additional statements from alumni and students include: “I can now say that I am someone with integrity and someone who can get a product despite any challenge” (Emma Aaron, 2020), “The staff members look at us as young adults and not as children, and they treat us as if they were family relatives. They help us learn how to positively lead our own lives, they help us learn from our mistakes, they let us own our education, and they don't judge by what we want to do or be” (Roni Akilov, 2020), “Life is a learning process that keeps going and doesn’t ever really slow down” (Rob Adams, 1991), “Believe that whatever you would love to do is possible” (Venus Rey Jr., 1983), “I am forever grateful to Delphian, and everyone that makes this school what it is...” (Nigel Mincey, 2019), “Don’t be scared of medical school” (Coral Kahane, 2010), “An outstanding skill one obtains through the Delphian program is the ability to learn. I believe that ability alone can make one unstoppable” (Natalia Garcia, 2017), “Don't let what you know get in the way of what you don't know” (James Clarizio, 2009), and “Humanitarian work is not the way to get rich or have a life of ease—but it is extremely purposeful and rewarding. So find your area of purpose and push that purpose forward with everything you’ve got” (Stephanie Croman, 1991).
