Heartland Farm Sanctuary Humane Education Programs

Heartland Farm Sanctuary Humane Education Programs include summer programs, camps, field trips, clubs, experiential therapy programs, internship opportunities, and volunteer opportunities. The programs take place at a farm animal sanctuary that is described as a safe, welcoming space where people and farm animals come together. The programs use empathy-based humane education and experiential therapy in partnership with animals.

The mission of Heartland Farm Sanctuary is to inspire compassion for animals, the earth and each other by offering a safe, welcoming space where people and farm animals come together to experience growth, healing and connection. Heartland Farm Sanctuary provides high-quality, specialized care, hope and healing for farm animals who have suffered abuse or neglect and have nowhere else to go, and most rescued animals remain at the sanctuary for their entire lives. The organization offers experiential therapy programs for young people in partnership with animals, internship opportunities for ages 18 and older, and recruits volunteers who are 16 and older. Some staff members have credentials such as MSW, APSW, MFT-IT, MS-ATR, and CTRS, and the leadership and board team includes Annie Engelhardt, Jenelle DeVries, Micaela Magel, Toni Sobon, Molly Linn-Miller, Madison Bohnenkamp, Alissa Andrews, Kate Atkins, Eric Sundquist, Ty Beck, Hillary Vedvig, Erin Arango-Escalante, Lily Mormann, and Christine Orrell. Heartland Farm Sanctuary has been recognized as one of the nation’s premier farm animal sanctuaries and serves as a resource for shelters and county agencies around the state that request assistance with farm animal abandonment and cruelty cases.
