The Auburn University Raptor Center is a division of the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine and functions as a rehabilitation and education facility for raptors. Its mission is to advance conservation through research and collaboration, engage the community with educational outreach, provide care and rehabilitation for raptors, and embolden the Auburn spirit. The mission is carried out by collaborating with College of Veterinary Medicine faculty and staff, using animal ambassadors in educational experiences, guiding the public who seek help with injured or orphaned wildlife, providing hands-on experiences for veterinary and undergraduate students, and participating in research initiatives. The center relies heavily on volunteers in both its education and rehabilitation units, with roles available for community members and college students.
The Auburn University Raptor Center has rehabilitated and released thousands of injured raptors and runs educational programs that feature raptors. Its pregame stadium flights of resident eagles are a long-standing tradition in college sports. The center only accepts injured, orphaned, or ill raptors from Alabama. School groups that want to visit must submit a request at least 90 days in advance, and all other requests must be submitted at least 2 weeks in advance. In 2022, the Auburn University Raptor Center marked its 50th anniversary. The center is led by Director Robyn Miller, PhD, and Raptor Administration Coordinator Andrew Hopkins.
