Team Ross started in 1995 in a space in downtown Demopolis, Alabama, and describes itself as a full time fitness and combat sports gym with a small gym community atmosphere. The organization lists core values of Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, and Indomitable Spirit, and describes itself as more than just a fight team and as a family, using the phrase “like IRON sharpens IRON, we grow together.” Its mission statement says that Team Ross aims to help students on their own journey of personal improvement by providing a positive training environment, expert instruction, and a feeling of student camaraderie that transcends skill level, gender and age. Qualified, motivated instructors are described as helping students meet their goals, and BJJ Gis are recommended equipment.
From traditional martial arts tournaments, youth students have won numerous XMA forms, weapons forms, traditional Taekwondo forms, and point sparring events at the state, regional, and national levels. From Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitions such as IBJJF, AGF, and NAGA, students have won numerous state and national championships, and the youth BJJ team placed 3rd in the US Nationals. Students at Ross Martial Arts & Fitness Academy have the ability to compete in traditional martial arts tournaments, semi-contact and full contact Muay Thai and kickboxing events, and various grappling formats including IBJJF, AGF, and NAGA.
