About
Buena Vista Children's Services offers an Afterschool Program that includes time for homework, activities, and dramatic play. The program is part of a community based nonprofit organization that designs, develops, and implements model programs for children, parents, and educators. Programs address emerging needs in the areas of child care, education, parenting, child abuse prevention, and resource and referral.
Buena Vista Children’s Services was established in May of 1997 as a sole proprietorship and later became a 501c3 nonprofit corporation in 2001. Over the past 21 years, it has served over 5000 families and educated over 3000 early childhood professionals. BVCS has been awarded multiple grants, including a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant through the Arizona Department of Education and HRSS Grants from the Arizona Department of Economic Security to recruit, study, and certify child care home providers in Apache, Coconino, Gila, Navajo, and Yavapai Counties. The organization has created and implemented Buena Vista Preschool Curriculum aligned with Arizona Early Learning Standards and offers Pre-K education and skill building aligned with Arizona State Education Standards. Clarkdale Discovery Connections Afterschool Program uses a Discovery Connection curriculum, and BVCS offers monthly Early Childhood Education trainings for free as an extension of the annual “Arizona on the Move” Early Childhood Education Conference hosted at Yavapai College. BVCS also invites community members and early childhood educators to use its free lending library and has created its signature Professional Development Program. The organization is supported by over 60 local and state-wide businesses and has collaborated with partners including the Clarkdale/Jerome School District, Dr. Daniel Bright Elementary School, Verde Valley Medical Center through Bright Futures Child Care, Yavapai College, and Community Counts for free parenting education classes. BVCS’s mission states that it fosters innovative programs and leadership to enhance the quality of life for children in Northern Arizona.
