Beginning Piano Studio offers piano and group music instruction. The program includes group music for younger children, lecturing on music, and teaching music to children with various disabilities. Instruction also draws on training in child development and music and movement education for groups of any age.

Karen Magruder is the Teacher/Owner of Beginnings in Music: Kindermusik & Beginning Piano Studios and has owned and managed Beginning Piano since 1983. She has maintained the largest and oldest studio in the area for 35 years. She is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music through the Music Teachers National Association and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management with almost a minor in music from California State University–San Bernardino. Her training includes the Kindermusik method for all age groups 0–7 years and all supplementary courses, Group Piano (Musikgarten), and Levels I and II of the Orff-Scheulwerk method, which is designed to teach general music to different ages. She is Kindermusik Certified Maestro Teacher and has received Kindermusik Maestro Awards.

Her additional training and credentials include American Orff-Scheuwerk Levels I and II (out of 3), Microsoft Office 2010 and Business Etiquette through Goodwill Industries International, Notary Public (State of California), and Fire & Casualty Agent (State of California). She has training in child development and in music and movement education for groups of any age. Beginning Piano Studio has held an A+ BBB rating for 16 years. According to the program’s information, three-fourths of new business comes by referral, students always have high scores on state exams and in competitions, and parents and students have spoken highly of her and have been willing to provide references.

In the music education community, she has served as Past District IV Coordinator for CAPMT and as past Vice President and President of the Empire Music Teachers Association (EMTA), which she helped found. She is a co-founder, president, and vice president of the Empire Music Teachers Association and a member of Phoenix Music Teachers Association (PMTA), MTNA/ASMTA/PMTA, CAPMT, and the Renaissance Wind Ensemble.
