The Alhambra Educational Foundation’s mission is to raise funds to support and enhance the educational programs of the Alhambra Unified School District, benefiting all schools and all students, and to provide direct service by developing, sponsoring, and implementing programs that enrich the curriculum and instructional program. The organization is governed by a Board of Directors made up of parents, community business and professional people, retired educators, and community activists. The leadership team includes Steve Perry (President), Cliff Bender (Vice President), Martin Ulloa (Secretary), Marilynn Chun (Treasurer), Michelle Alcala (Executive Assistant, K–8 Academy Office Manager), Alice Tang (Treasurer), Amy Tambara (K–8 Academy Coordinator), and Bill Yee (High School Coordinator). AEF has held a 19th Annual Service to Education Awards Dinner and Gala, and Ed Aguirre retired from AUSD in 1998, joined the AEF Board of Directors that same year as its third President, and after five years as President began the Summer Elementary Enrichment Academy and the Summer High School Program.
AEF recognizes individuals and community organizations that have contributed many hours of service or money to the education of children in the community. The organization has presented or received awards including the AEF Life Time Achievement Award, AEF Service to Education Award, PTSA Honorary Service Award, Golden Oak Award, Keppel Honorary Thespian Award, PTA Honorary Service Awards, and the Golden Apple Award from the Association of California School Administrators. An early registration discount for K–8 and High School summer schools has been extended to April 15, and the programs offer an Adopt A Camper Deduction Program.
