Our mission for establishing Girls United overnight camp is to create a movement in the community that supports the total engagement of girls in fun-filled, old-school summer camp recreational activities while creating a positive impact and lifelong memories and friendships. Our overnight camp is designed for girls grades 3rd-8th grade. The camp is located in the foothills of the Sierra mountains in the small town of Alta, California.

Why Sleepaway camp?

Girls United Overnight camp provides an incredible environment for girls to focus on building a strong community emphasizing teamwork, responsibility, and friendship.  Our camp promotes fun, encouraging imaginative thinking, teaching life skills, and instilling the pride of accomplishment in every camper. By spending summers at Girls United Summer Camp, campers discover that they can accomplish anything they put their heart and mind into.

Say “YES” to Adventure

The girls will all stay in either a lodge or cabin. They will be sleeping in bunk beds and are free to bring items to decorate their cabins. Each bunk will have at least 1 counselor staying with them. All cabins are equipped with bathrooms and showers and some have mini refrigerators to store snacks.

Activities at Camp

At camp, we have a variety of activities for the girls.

  • Land Sports: Soccer, basketball, volleyball
  • Water Sports: Swimming,  belly-flopping, water polo, and slip-n-slide
  • Camp Games: Ping pong, foosball, carpet ball, gaga ball, nine square in the air,  horseshoes, frisbee golf, campfires, capture the flag, color wars, talent shows, and hiking.

Core Values

These values guide our decisions, activities, actions, and expectations of campers and staff.

  • Believe in Yourself
  • Choose Gratitude
  • Inspire Each Other
  • Be strong, confident, and brave
  • See the light in each other
  • Be the light for each other

Big Sister-Little Sister

A wonderful thing about camp is its many well-loved traditions.  One of our favorites is the Camp Big Sister/Little Sister program.

Camp Big Sisters talk to their Little Sisters before the summer, sharing their enthusiasm, knowledge, and love for camp. Once at camp, we want to make sure that all of our campers feel right at home as quickly as possible, and Camp Sisters is a great way to help make that happen!  They visit their Little Sisters on the first day of camp. During camp, we hold Camp Sister events, like special meals and evening activities.

Transportation

We provide 1st class transportation to and from camp by luxury buses. The buses are equipped with restrooms, reclining seats, and 15" screen monitors to watch movies to pass the time. The camp is 150 miles away and takes us about 2.5 hours to get to and from our destination.

Our team is made up of strong, independent, kind, and compassionate role models. We believe that our camp is only as strong as our leadership. We only work with the best, most encouraging, and patient Leaders, which sets us apart from other camps. Our leaders are committed to treating everyone with kindness and respect and have a knack for encouraging all campers to take risks and try new things in a safe environment.
