Bellis Music Camp is a week-long, sleep-away summer camp where campers rehearse and perform in Wind Ensemble, String Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, and Chamber Music groups. Campers also take theory classes, join recreation activities, and take part in an outdoor concert held at the ACCC Amphitheater.
• Ages: 11–14 years old
• Schedule: Week-long sleep-away session from July 26–August 1, 2026, beginning with registration on July 26 and ending with a departure concert on August 1, 2026, from 2:00–3:30 p.m.
Bellis Music Camp was founded in 1957 by music educator Lawrence Bellis. Its purpose is to serve young musicians by creating an atmosphere where musical and social skills can be combined to bring out the best in each young person. This camp serves middle school band and orchestra students in 6th–8th grade during the 2025–2026 school year and serves middle school aged music students throughout Southern California. Bellis Music Camp welcomes students of all races, colors, religions, sexes, sexual orientations, gender identities, and national or ethnic origins, and does not discriminate in admissions, scholarships, or any camp program.
The leadership team includes founder Lawrence Bellis; instructors Melissa Fuentes, Ria Kubota, Anna Lim, Richard Meyer, Jack Taylor, and Kyle Smith; senior counselors; a camp director; camp staff members Amy Kubo and Jerry Lee; Alexander Chu; coaches Tiffany Cai and Taylor McKendrick; nurse Delanie McKendrick, R.N.; and administrator Rose Meyer. Richard Meyer has over 40 years of experience as a public school orchestra and band director in Pasadena and Temple City, California, is a composer of over 200 published works, and has been a guest conductor and clinician in 30 states and abroad. Jack Taylor has been a music teacher for over 25 years, is the orchestra director at Oak Avenue Intermediate School, has directed the Pasadena Youth Symphony for over 16 years, and has conducted ensembles in Austria, Germany, Costa Rica, and Sao Paolo, Brazil. Ria Kubota is a middle school orchestra teacher, presenter, mentor, and parent with over 20 years of experience in the San Gabriel Valley, including in Monrovia, Pasadena, and Glendora.
Campers love to get mail, and the camp asks families to send only envelopes and no packages, and to send mail by Wednesday, July 30, to guarantee delivery during the week. For the outdoor concert, families are asked to bring a folding chair, blanket, and iced cold drinks and may sit under the trees or on the covered bleachers. Families are asked to keep all pets at home.
