NBC Camps states that “NBC” stands for “Nothing Beats Commitment” and uses the motto “better players, better people.” The program emphasizes daily habits, gratitude, confidence, goals, self-discipline, mental toughness, building stronger families and friendships, and developing a strong personal faith, with servant leadership at the core of its approach. Coaches are trained to serve others, be intentionally engaged with each camper, and operate as professionals, and NBC states that each camper is considered vitally important, valued, and having significant potential. The camp describes its basketball teaching as focusing on intensity, grit, resilience, focus, intelligence, joy, and gratitude, with coaches and campers responsible for providing energy, enthusiasm, and encouragement to create a positive culture and learning environment.
The camp offers a Complete Player basketball curriculum with emphasis on defense, ball handling, offensive moves, team movement, and understanding of the game, and provides 6–10 hours per day of basketball skill work, drills, games, tournaments, and leadership training. Student-athletes focus on skill mastery, mental toughness, confidence, and becoming strong leaders on and off the court. High school athletes are placed in teaching groups based on age, ability, and gender with expectations of a high pace focused on skill mastery, mental toughness, and leadership, while middle school teaching focuses on accurate skills, foundational excellence, decision making, pattern recognition, and confidence building. Campers are grouped by age, skill, and experience, and dedicated coaches place campers into training groups based on skill level, with a staff-to-camper ratio of approximately 1:10 and a personal skill assessment that includes words of encouragement and ways to improve.
NBC Basketball Camps at this site offers both overnight and extended day Complete Player camp options. A sample overnight Day Two schedule includes wake-up at 7:00 am, breakfast at 7:30 am, ball handling at 8:30 am, extended day camper arrival at 9:00 am, a morning session at 9:20 am, lunch at 12:00 pm, an afternoon session at 1:30 pm, dinner at 5:00 pm, a PM session at 6:30 pm, the Evening Program at 7:45 pm, extended day camper departure at 9:00 pm, and lights out at 10:00 pm. Extended day campers do not sleep on campus or eat breakfast on campus. Transportation is not provided, and campers are responsible for getting to and from camp on their own, and there is no supervision before or after camp hours, so parents must arrange timely pickup.
The program notes that NBC Camps is celebrating 55 years of camp excellence and describes itself as one of the largest and most respected sports camps in the world. NBC Camps also offers summer camps, fall and spring training academies, year-round clinics, and international travel teams, and invites athletes ages 14–18 on international tours through the NBC Travel Teams program. Fun and high energy events at camp include Intensity Night, the Evening Program, and All-Star Games, and Intensity Night is described as involving sweat, music, encouragement, and confidence building where campers set their level of intensity.
The staff includes an outstanding coaching staff chosen based on high integrity and character, and most camps have an athletic trainer on-site to help with illness or injury. Roommates need to be requested at least two weeks before camp begins; if no preference is given, campers are matched with a camper of the same gender and similar age, with usually two campers per room and shared common bathrooms, and coaches of the same gender stay in the dorms for supervision. There is no air conditioning in housing, and campers are encouraged to bring a fan.
The Golden Ruler Award is described as the highest achievement at NBC Camps and is designed to teach campers to become a person of depth and reflection while instilling the importance of community service, discipline, and accountability. Only campers ages 13–18 may try for the Golden Ruler Award, and criteria include journaling, designing workouts, memorization, testing, essays, and more.
Players are expected to supply their own athletic equipment and have at least one pair of well-broken-in basketball court shoes, and campers need to bring their own ball clearly labeled with their name. NBC Camps is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Campers are encouraged to bring a fan because there is no air conditioning, and allergies, dietary restrictions, and medical concerns should be included on registration so campus staff and camp staff can be prepared for arrival and meals. At some locations, there is a camp store and camp bank for snacks, sports drinks, and NBC gear.
