Beat the Streets, Inc. was founded in 2005 and is governed by a Board of Directors. The organization has been certified by the Internal Revenue Service as exempt under section 501(c)(3) and classified as a public charity, and is classified under NAICS as 611710 Educational Support Services and 624310 Vocational Rehabilitation Services. The mission of Beat the Streets, Inc. is to empower at-risk youth in Antioch and the East Bay by providing free educational support, vocational training, and life skills workshops, and to make sure at-risk low income youth and young adults ages 11–29 have the resources they need to be successful in their educational, vocational, life skill, and diversion and re-entry goals, as well as offer community resources for any age.
The program’s leadership includes Yvette Williams, Founder and Executive Director of Back on Track Community Services and Expungement Services, Program Director Maria Morales, and Tracy, who is described as the force behind Beat the Streets. The programs provide resources to families in the community and free supportive services for at-risk youth and young adults for ages 11–29 in Contra Costa, Alameda, and San Francisco counties with an emphasis in Antioch and Pittsburg. Beat the Streets collaborates with Los Medanos College to assist participants with learning about community resources, continuing their education, and moving through the college matriculation process, and both programs host workshops and information sessions in each other’s spaces. Testimonials from alumni and community partners describe experiences with community service, job support, and access to many resources through the program.
