Arrowbear Music Camp was founded in 1942. Its mission statement says it offers summer camp programs for young people who love to make music and focuses on creating a healthy, fun atmosphere for those who want to come to the mountains and make music with others. The camp describes itself as an intimate summer music camp that blends the camaraderie of a traditional sleep away camp environment with inspiring musical instruction and a one of a kind fusion of a music workshop with a classic summer camp experience. The property includes rehearsal areas, a dining hall, an administration building called the “O” building, a first aid building, a swimming pool, an arts and crafts building, and several other general-purpose areas and buildings. Separate sleeping areas consist of barrack-style dorms with bathrooms, with additional tent cabins used for larger sessions, and the closeness and arrangement of the living quarters is described as adding to a “one big family” group experience. The wood exteriors of the buildings are described as blending with the rustic setting of woods and rock outcropping terrain. The camp’s alumni group awards scholarships each year to help send musicians to summer camp.
