The Broadway Musical Summer Workshop is a four week summer singing, acting, and dancing workshop that includes specific work on vocal techniques, acting skills, choreography, and the auditioning process. The program also includes swimming and a snack at break time, with a certified lifeguard on hand at all times. During the final week, students present the Broadway show “The Wizard of Oz” Youth Edition as a big-stage production with costumes, sets, make-up, lights, professional sound, and body mics.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Runs June 1–27, Monday–Friday, with a choice of morning (9am–12pm) or afternoon (1pm–4pm) sessions
• Price: Tuition is $400 per student and includes training, materials, costume rental, show t-shirt, and two comp tickets to the show; tuition is non-refundable after May 1
The workshop is taught by nationally trained instructors who are working in the business as educators and performers. This particular workshop has an enrollment limit, and students may be asked to provide their own footwear or under garments for the performances. Bakersfield Youth Fine Arts Academy (BYFA), which runs the program, focuses on the education of youth in the visual and performing arts and on the enrichment of the community through live performances.
