Early Childhood Music Fundamentals includes creative movement, songs, improvisation, singing, piano skills, and rhythmic movement. The program is organized into Music Fundamentals I: Singing + Movement and Music Fundamentals II: Piano Skills + Movement, with all classes held on Saturdays in 18-class sessions.
• Ages: 3–6 years old
• Schedule: Saturdays in 18-class fall and spring sessions, with classes between 9:30am and 12:15pm
• Price: Tuition: $954 per session + $25 registration fee
Music Fundamentals I: Singing + Movement meets for ages 3–5 from 9:30–10:15am for ages 3–4 (with parent) and from 10:30–11:15am for ages 4–5 (with parent). Music Fundamentals II: Piano Skills + Movement meets for ages 5–6 from 11:30am–12:15pm. Each session includes 18 classes, with a Fall Session from August 29, 2026 to January 23, 2027, and a Spring Session from January 30, 2027 to June 5, 2027, with no classes during listed fall, winter, and spring break weeks.
Crowden School, which runs this program, was founded in 1983 and was officially renamed “Crowden Music Center” in 2003. Doris Fukawa is named Executive Director. The organization states, “We believe that music is an inherent part of being human, and we believe in the power of music to change lives—indeed, to change everything.” One graduate says, “Crowden opens your mind and lets you develop in a way that is only possible when you have music alongside the strong academics.” Crowden produces over 60 public concerts each year, children attend Crowden concerts free of charge, and it celebrates an annual Community Music Day, a free musical carnival for all ages. Crowden provides access to music education through a public school outreach program and participates in major community street festivals, and its performance and rehearsal facilities are used by local music teachers and organizations, including East Bay Music Together and Pacific Edge Voices.
