Monkey Business Camp has been creating joyful, play-based camp experiences for Berkeley families since 1998 and has served over 10,000 kids and 6,000 families. The camp offers fun, creative, community-centered camps during school breaks throughout the year, with days at Break Camp including a mix of creative projects, group games, and community-building, with time spent both indoors and outdoors in a school setting. The program is 90–100% unplugged and outdoors, balancing free play and structure, and describes itself with the phrase “Play • Community • Outdoors since 1998.” Youth Leadership for ages 11–17 includes roles where youth leaders assist staff, mentor younger campers, and gain hands-on leadership experience, and families can grow with the camp from camper to youth leader to staff. Monkey Business Camp uses three fee tiers as a sliding scale, with higher tiers helping fund scholarships, year-round staff, and diverse programming, and if a camper is missing a day of camp and the family emails at least 10 days before camp begins, $100 will be transferred to a future camp.

Parent feedback includes comments such as, “Our kids absolutely loved break camp and can’t wait to come back,” and that a child who is not always easy to get out of the house was always willing to go to this camp. Other parents note that activities grow with their child while keeping a familiar routine, that multiple siblings of different ages all enjoy Monkey Business Camp and ask to return year after year, and that the camp feels warm, welcoming, easy, friendly, and open while also being very well organized.
