About

The New School of Berkeley After-School Program offers after-school care for TK through 3rd grade students. The program uses a play-based, emergent curriculum rooted in curiosity, creativity, and community. Educators intentionally design environments that invite problem-solving, collaboration, creativity, and joyful exploration, and children are encouraged to share ideas, listen to others, and practice fairness and empathy.

Founded in Berkeley in 1966, New School of Berkeley is a nonprofit serving families in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Region. Its mission states that The New School is a place where children are happy, relaxed, and free to be themselves, with a play-based, emergent curriculum that supports curiosity, independence, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning. The school also operates a play-based preschool serving children ages 2–5 and additional school age programs rooted in curiosity, creativity, and community. New School of Berkeley holds a State of California, Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Facility Number and describes a deep commitment to inclusion, mutual respect, and social responsibility.
