About

Learn to Bike Camp Burlingame introduces kids to biking through a step-by-step approach that includes walking their bikes, scooting downhill, coasting with their feet up, touching the pedals, and pedaling. The camp focuses on biking skills in a half-day Learn to Bike format and is intended for first-time riders or kids using training wheels or balance bikes, not those who can already ride. Campers are strongly encouraged to use their own bikes, but they may also borrow from the camp fleet.

Learn to Bike Camp Burlingame is taught by experienced instructors who are described as skilled, patient, and insatiable outdoors experts who love adventuring and working with kids. All instructors are 18 and older and receive serious safety and skills training, and the organization states that camper-to-staff ratios are 5:1. The program is part of Avid4 Adventure, whose mission states that they believe in the transformative power of the outdoors and that kids at Avid4 Adventure build confidence, make new friends, and master essential skills in activities like paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking.

Avid4 Adventure notes that its programs evolve as campers grow from age 3 through 17 and that they recruit, hire, and train high-class outdoor educators, with plans to hire approximately 500 educators across all camps. They describe their educators as essential workers and state that they are committed to paying them a fair wage. Every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved, including what they are, how to prevent them, and how to respond if something goes wrong, and they state that they do everything in their power to keep kids safe but do not “pack them up in bubble wrap.”

The organization highlights that Avid4 instructors are the number one point of positive feedback from parents and that their camps are backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee, which promises an authentic outdoor adventure, incredibly well-trained and professional staff, and increased confidence; if these promises are not met, the next Avid4 Adventure camp is free. Avid4 Adventure is a Certified B Corp committed to public transparency and accountability, and its summer camps are accredited by the American Camp Association and have been named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps. They also operate under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service.

Avid4 Adventure offers transportation to and from recreation areas and access to top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids, and they describe their experiences as big adventures in beautiful recreation areas. They state that they believe in empowering kids from PreK through 12th grade. A referral program offers friends $50 off their first camp and provides a $50 coupon for a future 2026 camp when that friend makes a purchase, and the organization notes that Avid4 Adventure is a premium camp.

Parent testimonials describe Avid4 Adventure as a place where one child learned to ride a bike without training wheels and developed new favorite activities such as stand up paddleboarding, kayaking, and biking, and where staff are described as mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion with kids. Another parent reports that their kids were active every day, still talk about camp over a month later, and are eager to return. The leadership team includes founder David Secunda, who is a former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry.
