Camp options include Artists’ Studio, Checkmate Chess, Creative Writing, Design & Build, Lemonade Stand, Math Meets, and Spy School, along with programs such as Writers’ Room, Yes to Chess, and Mathletes-in-Training. The program also offers private instruction, coaching, private workshops, and scholastic chess tournaments.
• Ages: 6–13 years old
• Schedule: Full-day camps run Monday–Friday from 9:00am–4:00pm with a lunch hour, and half-day camps run Monday–Friday from 9:00am–12:00pm or 1:00–4:00pm; summer tutoring packages are offered Monday–Friday from 1:15–5:30pm in five 55-minute sessions that can be used one at a time or consecutively.
• Price: Full-day camps are $675 per week, half-day camps are $400 per week, and summer tutoring packages cost $350 for five elementary sessions and $400 for five middle school sessions, with optional extended care available for $30 per day.
Grupology offers interactive and relevant learning experiences for students in grades 1–8, with courses across a broad range of subjects combining essential skills with innovation and fun. Summer camps are intentionally designed to grow with each child, and courses are designed to meet students where they are and grow with them as they learn and progress. Individual attention is given to each student in a shared learning environment, and campers are generally grouped by age in lower and upper elementary groups, with chess players grouped by level or skill rather than grade. Middle school students may register for Checkmate Chess, Creative Writing, and Lemonade Stand camps or summer tutoring, and campers in Lemonade Stand camp will be able to showcase their business at Grupology’s Farmers’ Market. Families can coordinate summer activities for their child and friends with an organizer, and extended care is available as an optional add-on at checkout.
The program’s mission is to excite and support young learners. Grupology believes in the power of learning in a group and offers summer camps that are intentionally designed to grow with each child, with content and curriculum intentionally differentiated based on age and experience. Grupology has been featured in Punch Magazine’s March 2022 issue. Camp counselors supervise lunch breaks at a nearby park, and campers are asked to bring a reusable water bottle labeled with their name and nut-free snacks or lunch; elementary campers registered for all day and campers staying for extended care should pack a nut-free lunch.
Campers in Checkmate Chess are grouped by skill level, not grade, and chess players are grouped by level or skill and not by grade. Summer tutoring packages for elementary (rising 1st–5th) and middle school (rising 6th–8th) students consist of five 55-minute sessions, valid June 1–August 14, with sessions available Monday through Friday from 1:15–5:30pm. Camp scheduling runs in Weeks 1–10 with morning camp from 9:00am–12:00pm, afternoon camp from 1:00–4:00pm, and full-day camp from 9:00am–4:00pm.
Grupology’s leadership team includes Paul Mishkin, CEO of IXL; Jim Szafranski, CEO of Prezi; Betsy Doyle, Partner at Bridgespan; Tom Koh, Executive Creative Director at T3; Lija McBride, Board Member in education and non-profit; and Sumanth Sukumar, VP at Coinbase.
