About

Latinas in STEM K-12 Outreach Programs offers STEM 101 Days, speaking engagements, after-school programs, summer programs, mentorship, webinars, and blogging activities for students. The programs are run through the Latinas in STEM Foundation, which is volunteer-run and founded by Latina MIT alumnae. Professional members in these programs serve as role models to K–12 students and college members through activities such as mentorship, webinars, and blogging.

• Ages: 5–18 years old

Since 2013, the volunteer-run Latinas in STEM Foundation has focused on breaking down barriers for first-generation Latinas in STEM. The organization is led by a team that includes Co-Founder and Board Member Diana Albarrán Chicas, Administrator Anabelle Forte, Board Members Dr. Michelle Mejia and Dr. Isha Renta, and Social Media lead Dr. Daisy Rosas Vargas, with past board members including Roselin Campos, Dr. Angelica Safanova, Jazlyn Carvajal, and Dr. Martha Osei-Yaw. The programs are supported by a nationwide network of STEM graduates and professionals and include a K–12 outreach pipeline that begins with inspiring K–12 students to pursue STEM careers and empowering parents with knowledge. The organization sponsors college chapters and works alongside community colleges and four-year institutions to create a college volunteering pipeline for K–12 outreach, and it matches Latinas majoring in STEM fields with Latina role models. Latinas in STEM also provides professional development support for early to mid-career professionals through mentorship, webinars, and blogging, and has a partnership with the Barbie Dream Gap Project while reaching into underserved communities and educating parents.
