Freedom Jiu-Jitsu Academy Youth Programs is led by owner Staci Stefan, who is a BJJ black belt, and head black belt instructor Professor David Ruiz. Professor David Ruiz is a 5th degree black belt, has been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for over 30 years, has owned his own academies, and teaches authentic Gracie Jiu Jitsu straight from the sources of Helio Gracie and Rorion Gracie. The academy’s mission states that it is dedicated to cultivating a vibrant and welcoming community through the art of Gracie Jiu Jitsu and to creating an inclusive environment for individuals and families of all ages. The mission also states that the gym focuses on family connections on and off the mat and that its highly qualified black belt instructors share Jiu Jitsu knowledge from fundamental self-defense to sport Jiu Jitsu. The studio is woman-owned, offers toddler, kids, and teens Brazilian Jiu Jitsu programs, and is described as a family-oriented gym. The Homeschool Enrichment program involves Montessori teachers Mrs Judy and her daughter Ms Jasmine.
Families from Carlsbad, Vista, Oceanside, San Marcos, Encinitas, and San Diego are invited in the program’s community involvement statement. One parent from Carlsbad reports using the homeschool program for over a year and being happy with the communication and support for their child. Another parent from Escondido describes the Little Ninjas class and says that Staci keeps the kids engaged and that their 8-year-old has come to love jiu jitsu. A Carlsbad parent notes three years of attendance, mentions class options including Muay Thai and the homeschool program, and describes the space, location, and instructors as positive features. A parent from Oceanside describes Staci as a strong, nurturing, black belt female owner and coach for their daughters. Another Oceanside parent says their 9-year-old looks forward to Jiu Jitsu days and has made many friends at what they describe as a very family-oriented gym. A Carlsbad parent shares that their son participates in the Homeschool Enrichment program and Little Ninjas class, and names Coach Dave, Coach Staci, and Coach Steve as instructors in the Little Ninjas class.
