About

Carmel Youth Center Programs take place in a 5-story community center and are part of a youth development organization that provides services and leadership to meet the emerging needs of young people and their families in the community. The programs include the CYC Excursion Program, which began in 2021 and takes children on adventures outside of the center. As part of its approach, the organization strives to meet kids where they are, to take kids where they need to go, and to treat everyone with respect and dignity, regardless of their differences and backgrounds.

• Schedule: The CYC Excursion Program began in 2021; additional schedule details are not provided.
• Price: 40% of the youth have used scholarship funding provided by community members.

It all began in 1949, when Bing Crosby funded the building and establishment of the Carmel Youth Center for the city of Carmel. Over the past 75 years, what was once an empty dirt lot has become a 5-story community center. Bing Crosby funded the center while he was living in Pebble Beach and eventually helped create over two hundred private, non-profit youth centers, and the Carmel Youth Center is the only one of those centers remaining. The mission of Carmel Youth Center is to provide a safe, positive environment where youth can build character and develop the skills needed to reach their full potential. The construction of the building was completed brick by brick by members of the community, some of whom were in their youth at the time and later became members of the Board of Directors. Forty percent of the youth have used scholarship funding provided by generous community members, and when families become part of Carmel Youth Center, they join a legacy that includes teachers, parents, community members, and business leaders who share a belief in nurturing, educating, and encouraging kids to be responsible, civically engaged, and prepared for the future.
