For 50 years, the Effie Yeaw Nature Center has operated as the Interpretive Center of the American River Parkway. Its mission is to inspire curiosity, connection, and stewardship of the natural world by providing educational programs, interpretive experiences, and resources that help people of all ages explore and understand the ecosystems of the American River Parkway. The center recognizes that it sits on the unceded land of the Valley Nisenan peoples.

The American River Natural History Association, Effie Yeaw Nature Center, and Sacramento Regional Parks are co-stewards of the land and collaborate with local tribal nations to preserve the land in a way that respects the beliefs and cultures of the first peoples of this area. Educators from throughout the Sacramento region visit the facility year-round. The leadership team includes Interim Executive Director Rachael Cowan and staff members such as Director of Strategic Development Christina Preston, Senior Naturalist/CalNat Instructor Brena Seck, several naturalists, and additional administrative, communications, reception, and maintenance staff. The organization states that it is committed to fostering diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion in all aspects of its work and provides a wide range of programs and events that reflect the diverse interests and backgrounds of the community.
