Greg Harcos serves as Co-Director of Nike Basketball Camp Jesuit High School and directs the Nike Basketball Camps in Sacramento, CA and surrounding areas after 13 years as Head Basketball Coach at Jesuit High School. Over 20 years at Jesuit High School, his roles have included Head of the Athletic Department from 2015–present, Varsity Basketball Head Coach from 2002–2015, JV Basketball Head Coach from 1997–2001, Varsity Assistant from 1996–1997, Freshman Head Coach from 1995–1996, JV Football Coach from 1997–2000, and member of the varsity football staff in 2001. His coaching career started at St. Ignatius Grammar School in 1994–1995. He graduated from the University of California–Berkeley in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and later earned a Masters in Education from Chapman University. As head of the Marauder basketball program, he has an overall record of 247 wins and 122 losses, with Delta River League Championships in 2003, 2006, and 2007, and Sac-Joaquin Section titles in 2006, 2007, 2011, and 2012, plus section runner-up finishes in 2003, 2011, and 2012. In 2006, he received the Sacramento Bee Coach of the Year award and led teams to state and national rankings in 2005, 2007, 2010, and 2011.
Greg Harcos’ stated coaching philosophy is that basketball is not only about learning the game but also using circumstances that parallel the game to teach life lessons and prepare athletes for what lies ahead. He states that he strives to develop each individual to the best of his ability in an attempt to maximize his players’ ability, and that strength, toughness, hard work, and preparation should be easily identified in the character of a Jesuit team.
Parents and campers report that they enjoyed street ball, individual challenges, and the 1:1 playing experience. One parent reports that their child’s confidence grew and skills improved, and that the high school coaches were motivating. Several parents and campers mention that the coaches and counselors were encouraging, engaged, and interactive with the kids. Campers and parents specifically mention enjoying the tournament at the end of the week, the shooting competition, and the drills, games, and competitions on the last day. One parent notes that the camp focused on fundamentals, and another mentions that both of their sons learned new skills. Multiple testimonials mention campers meeting new friends and looking forward to returning or attending another camp.
