Guido's Martial Arts Academy was founded in 2016 and has served the Clovis community for 10 years. The academy is family-owned, family-oriented, and offers programs for every age from 3 through adult. Families from Old Town Clovis, Harlan Ranch, Northeast Clovis, and nearby areas such as Fresno and Sanger train there each week, and the academy was started by Clovis locals.
The leadership team includes Shihan Mike Guido (Founder, Head Instructor, Dojo Manager, Co-Owner), Justa Guido (Co-Owner, General Manager, Program Director), Bianca Almendarez (Office Manager, Program Director), Marisa Martinez (Student Success Coordinator, TNT Leadership Manager), Senpai Renobato (Lead Instructor, Assistant Manager), and several certified instructors: Senpai Giselle Rubio, Senpai Danay Niles, Senpai Jenna Fremming, Mr. Logan Behrend, Senpai Emily Albertson, and Mrs. Hayley Moscone. Every instructor at Guido's is a nationally certified professional held to the same standard that Shihan Guido sets on the mat every day.
The academy states its mission as empowering and educating people in the community to be mentally strong, physically fit, and mentally healthy through quality martial arts instruction. Every kids program is based on four stages of childhood development: Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, and Social (PIES). Belt promotions are earned rather than scheduled, and every belt requires a demonstration of actual technique in front of the head instructor. The testing cycle is based on instructor assessment rather than a calendar, and contact training is introduced at the time the instructors decide is right for each student and is always supervised.
No gear is needed for the trial week; students can wear comfortable athletic clothes and bring a water bottle, and training takes place barefoot on the mat. Walk-ins are welcome during business hours, and no appointment is needed to watch a class, tour the dojo, or speak with the team. The academy describes itself as beginner friendly and family friendly, with all ages welcome and no prior experience needed.
