About

The Gracie Barra Kids & Teens Program offers Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction for children and teenagers. The program follows a curriculum that teaches the complete art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu adapted to specific age groups.

• Ages: 3–15 years old

The program is based at Gracie Barra Newport Beach and follows the mission “to train body, mind, and spirit through the highest level of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction” and to use Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as “a vehicle for individual development and the strengthening of the family spirit, going beyond winning-losing or contest philosophy.” The program is described as a family friendly academy with a safe and challenging training environment and opportunities to train with athletes of all levels. The leadership team includes Professor Kendall Reusing (Black Belt, 8x IBJJF World Champion), Professor Saul Viayra (Black Belt), Coach Jae Abrams (Brown Belt), Coach Aiden Spaeder (Purple Belt), and Coach Arpita Veera (Blue Belt). Kendall Reusing’s credentials include being an 8x IBJJF World Champion.

Parent and student testimonials describe positive experiences with the professors and coaches, including mentions of Professor Saul and Professor Kendall and the broader coaching staff. One parent notes that the coaches are “amazing with the kids” and reports seeing a son’s confidence grow in a short time. Another parent, whose two sons have trained there since 2010, describes the culture as “more like a family environment” and refers to the professors and coaches as positive role models who compete in tournaments worldwide and share that knowledge with kids and adults. A long-term family reports training for five years and describes access to “world Class coaching and training” and a “family friendly academy with opportunities to train with athletes of all levels.”
