About
Cupertino FC offers competitive teams, camps, recreational soccer, and an Adaptive Soccer program. Competitive players take part in team training and games, while camps and recreational sessions focus on regular soccer trainings. The Adaptive Soccer program includes soccer activities for players of all abilities.
• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: Competitive teams meet for 3 practices plus 1–2 games per week; camps run Monday–Friday during school breaks as intensive 1-week sessions; recreational programs run 6–12 weeks with 1–2 trainings per week
Cupertino FC started in 2015 and was founded by local parents and coaches who grew up in the community. The leadership team includes Founder and Director Lauv Aeron, Technical Director Bob Joyce, Director of Coaching Pancho Tzankov, Treasurer Kathy Nguyễn, Administrator Julie Rizk, and Treasurer Jennifer Younkin. The mission of Cupertino FC is to shape tomorrow’s leaders through athletics, using scientific training and the game of soccer to teach discipline, resilience, focus, and character. All programs use professional coaching from certified instructors who are trained by Technical Director Bob Joyce, who has over 50 years of experience, is described as a sport-science expert, and is the 2024–2025 CalNorth Coach of the Year. Cupertino FC notes that every coach is trained in Bob Joyce’s proprietary methodology, which is rooted in biomechanics and data-driven performance, and that its training is built on sports science. The club highlights that Bob Joyce has coached athletes who have gone on to college, professional soccer, and the United States Women’s National Team, including Vice Captain Naomi Girma, and that it is home to the coach of U.S. National Team player Naomi Girma.
Cupertino FC describes its approach as “Smaller Groups. Smarter Training. Bigger Futures.” and states that it maintains an 8:1 player-to-coach ratio, with personalized training plans and meaningful playing time. Competitive teams offer year-round training and league play for dedicated players. Camps are intensive 1-week camps during school breaks and are open to all skill levels. Recreational soccer is described as fun, skill-building sessions for players of all levels and a starting point for many players. The Adaptive Soccer program is free for players of all abilities and includes professional coaching with 1:1 volunteer buddies for players who benefit from a more supportive setting. Cupertino FC states that it was built to give Silicon Valley families professional-level training and competitive rigor along with personal attention, accountability, and community roots. The club lists affiliations and partners including NorCal, CalNorth, USSF, US Youth Soccer, and US Club Soccer, and describes itself as built by Cupertino parents for Cupertino families.
Parent testimonials describe small group settings with personalized attention, a focus on individual skill development, and coaches who are patient and observant of kids’ capabilities. Parents mention liking the number of trainings per week, the length of trainings, and the number of games played. Several testimonials describe the environment for younger kids as fun and supportive and mention that coaches encourage and support each child. One parent notes that the program’s diversity stands out and that their children are exposed to a range of communication styles, abilities, and perspectives. Another parent from Cupertino describes Cupertino FC as having a personal touch, with administration that clearly cares about families and coaches involved with every child. USWNT defender and Olympic gold medalist Naomi Girma credits Bob Joyce with starting her path to the National Team and says that his push changed her life. The Adaptive Soccer offering is specifically noted as free for players of all abilities.
