About
Hye Camp is a summer camp program that runs as part of the Diocese Summer Camp program. Hye Camp consists of 4 one-week sessions, and families can send mail to campers during their session using the camp’s mailing instructions.
• Schedule: Hye Camp consists of 4 one-week sessions, with 2026 Hye Camp dates as follows: Week 1: July 12–18; Week 2: July 19–25; Week 3: July 26–August 1; Week 4: August 2–8.
The Diocese Summer Camp program has been created to nurture the bodies, minds, and spirits of Armenian youth in a natural setting, providing a stimulating and fun environment of community that inspires individual growth and the values of Christian Fellowship. The Hye Camp Program began in 1964 with 32 participants and was originally called the Summer Religious Study Conference, which ran from July 27–August 8, 1964, at Dinky Creek in the Sierra Mountains. The camp program then took place at Camp Sugar Pine in the Sierra Mountains for the following year and almost every subsequent year until 1988. In December 1987, the Western Diocese became the owner of the Alta Sierra Camp (formerly Bob Mathias Camp), nestled in the Sequoia National Forest of the San Joaquin Valley, and this 160-acre property was dedicated in 2013 as Archbishop Vatche Hovsepian Camp. During the remainder of the year, the facility is used by various Diocesan organizations for meetings, retreats, and conferences, and it is also available to rent by outside groups throughout the year. To mail letters to campers (no packages), parents are instructed to address envelopes to Armenian Church Summer Camp, include the child’s name and week of camp, and use the camp’s mailing address in Dunlap, California.
