About

Performing Groups for Youth (PGY) focuses on singing, dancing, and performing techniques through musical theater showcase numbers that combine singing, dancing, and acting. Students learn dance routines, vocal music, and performance skills as part of each class. Each class typically learns 5–7 numbers that include singing, acting, and choreography, and every student is given the opportunity and is encouraged to perform a solo in each show.

• Ages: 4–14 years old
• Schedule: Each class meets 1–2 hours once a week for approximately 16 weeks of rehearsal, with the last week as dress rehearsal followed by Friday and Saturday night shows; the winter semester runs from late August or early September to a mid-January performance, and the spring semester runs from the end of January to mid-May performances.

Performing Groups for Youth is a non-profit organization and is described as a year-long commitment. Since 1978, PGY has been empowering individuals to reach for the stars in every facet of their lives by utilizing the transformative power of the performing arts to build self-confidence and foster personal growth. Its mission states that it aims to transform a child’s life by helping them reach for the stars and build their self-confidence. PGY is committed to providing a wholesome yet professional environment where students learn singing, dancing, and performing techniques as they build their inner confidence, and it provides a positive, encouraging, and non-competitive environment. The program encompasses all levels of performers, from first-timers to polished veterans who have gone on to Broadway, and rehearsals culminate in on-stage performances at the end of each semester with dress rehearsals, costumes, props, sets, lighting, and sound. PGY seeks out students with integrity, honor, enthusiasm, and dedication, and states that students learn life skills and have experiences that will last far beyond the memories of each year.

The leadership team includes Emily Bowen, who has been teaching and involved with PGY for over 20 years; Kapri Hill, a teacher and performer who graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music, Dance, and Theater; Annie, a student at Oak Ridge High School who has been with PGY for 4 years; and Kira French, who has been teaching PGY for over 6 years, along with Kamee Lyons, Sierra Corbridge, Justine Majeqski, and Katie Sloan. The unique space of PGY allows each child to have a “lights-camera-action” performance experience.
