About
Ninja Mountain Bike Skills Clinics & Camps offers a range of mountain bike skills sessions, including mountain bike skills clinics, 2-Day Mountain Bike Skills Camps, Ninja Kids Fundamentals Clinics, Co-ed Fundamentals, Women’s Only Fundamentals, Women’s Only Fundamentals – Full Day Combo, Women’s Only Fundamentals – Trail Application, Jumping Mini-Clinics, Intermediate/Advanced Clinics, intro to jumping, coached trail rides, and trail rides with skills application. Clinics and camps cover specific skills such as rock and log step-ups, pedal-assisted front wheel lifts, steep transitions and roll-downs, reading the trail and line choice, using trail features for maximum flow, low-speed turning, navigating trail obstacles, switchbacks, ratcheting, track stands, braking for speed, shifting on technical terrain, skinnies, off-camber trails, berms, water crossings, and roots. Ninja Kids clinics focus on skills including the Ninja (Ready) Position, body position, using gears, front and rear wheel lifts, safely getting on and off the bike, getting over trail obstacles, turning and switchbacks, reading the trail with a red/yellow/green light concept, when and how to brake, four climbing positions, descending in control, having fun and being safe, and safety checks and basic bike care.
• Ages: 6–18 years old
• Schedule: Weekend options including single-day clinics and a 2-Day Mountain Bike Skills Camp, with sample hours such as 8:45am–4:15pm or 8:45am–4:00pm for full days and 8:45am–12:15pm or 1:15pm–4:00pm for half-day sessions
Ninja Mountain Bike Skills Clinics & Camps runs a 2-Day Mountain Bike Skills Camp with a sample schedule that includes morning skills sessions, a lunch break where participants bring their own lunch, and afternoon sessions such as intro to jumping on Day 1 and a trail ride with skills application on Day 2, along with review, questions, and next steps at the end of each day. The Fundamentals Trail Application schedule includes meeting the instructor and an equipment check, a rapid review of fundamental skills, a coached trail ride with sessioning and skills application, and a short review period. The Jumping Mini-Clinic schedule includes an equipment check and introductions, an intro to jumping with wheel lifts, manuals, and bunny hops, a segment on reading the jump including the anatomy of a jump, speed versus compression, and landings, followed by jumping progressions on tabletops and a brief review. Ninja Kids clinic schedules, times, and skills covered may vary according to location and terrain.
Participants are instructed to bring a bike in good working order, a helmet, plenty of water and snacks, pads (which are highly recommended but not mandatory), lunch if attending for the whole day or a plan to find a nearby eatery, appropriate clothing for the weather, sunscreen, and a rain jacket. For pedals, participants are advised to ride whatever pedals they are most comfortable with, including clipless, with the note that it is much easier to learn most skills with flat pedals if they have some experience on them, and that flat pedals are designed to be worn with flat-soled shoes such as flat-soled mountain bike–specific shoes, skater shoes, or Vans. Ninja welcomes e-bikes at clinics that are held on e-bike friendly trails. There is a $5 trail use fee at Rockville Hills Regional Park that can be paid at the parking lot, and participants must have their receipt and ID with them at all times on the trail. Ninja provides an online electronic Liability Release waiver that is required to participate in the clinic weekend.
Testimonials from past participants describe the Intermediate/Advanced clinic as the best thing they had done to improve speed and ability on the bike and describe a two-day skills workshop as the best money they had spent on mountain biking. Other comments state that a clinic was just what a rider needed to better know how to handle situations on the trail to maintain speed and momentum, that a camp exceeded expectations for a cyclist who felt they had hit a plateau in technical riding, and that a 2-Day Mountain Bike Skills Camp included basic fundamental training such as bunny hops and cornering on the first day and climbing and downhill at different skill levels on the second day, with video used to help improve skills. Additional testimonials state that the Ninja mountain bike skill clinics brought riding levels up, that essential riding skills were thoroughly broken down and that coaches were professional and pleasant, and that within one hour riders were clearing a 5-foot jump with confidence. The program information notes a copyright range of 2010–2026.
