About
Will Robins Golf Junior Programs offers junior weekly golf classes, junior weekly coaching, and junior golf camps where kids take part in games, challenges, and learn the skills needed to play golf. Activities include club handling games such as putting and chipping, fun team competition, and tournaments, as well as a junior tour, family events, and educational workshops. The program also offers the Path to Champions coaching program for junior golfers who are looking to advance their game and compete in tournament golf or high school golf.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Junior camps run for 5 days, 90 minutes each day, during spring break and all summer; junior coaching is year-round after school, 90 minutes each week in 12-week programs, with 4 sessions included in each monthly payment.
Will Robins Golf states that its #1 goal is to instill a love of the game of golf for each child and to give parents a clear path on how to get their child into golf and help develop them to become champions in golf and life. Junior weekly classes focus on building skills, confidence, learning core values, and a love for the game in a fun and supportive environment, and WRGolf’s philosophy includes teaching core values, instilling confidence, and making the game of golf fun for young kids. Junior coaching programs are based on age groups 5–9 and 10+, with players put in teams based on skill and experience, and on the sign-up page the groups are age- and skill-level specific, with players grouped by comparable ability within each team.
In bad weather, sessions are held inside where students work on club handling games like putting and chipping, and coaches work on the First Tee curriculum. Camps are age specific so staff can create appropriate games and coaching, and clubs are provided for camps. If a child does not have clubs for other programs, they will be provided, and if a child has clubs, they are asked to bring them so staff can make sure they are fitted properly; staff can also provide recommendations on equipment vendors if parents want to buy clubs. Children are asked to bring a water bottle, sunblock, proper clothing for the current weather, and clubs if they have them, and golf shoes and gloves are not necessary.
Families can start junior coaching at any time and have the option to come out to a free session to try it out, and billing for junior coaching is monthly to a credit card. The program also offers an adult coaching program, golf gift certificates, and The Scoring Method. They are at four locations across Sacramento and offer classes almost every day of the week, and they connect parents and families to other local families with a child also learning the game. They have been at Empire Ranch Golf Course in Folsom for over 10 years.
Will Robins leads the program along with Jared Butts, Lex Goduti, Maddy Azevada, Christian Ladd, and Hanna Lange. Will brings experience from playing competitive junior golf in the UK, playing college golf in Monterey, California and West Palm Beach, Florida, and from a successful amateur and then professional playing career. The program gives kids of all ages and skill levels an opportunity to get on the golf course in a fun tournament setting and involves parents through the junior tour, family events, educational workshops, and connecting families.
Parent feedback includes comments that WRGolf’s philosophy of teaching core values, instilling confidence, and making golf fun for young kids is “really special,” that golf has become some children’s sport of choice and that they love the coaches, and that summer camp experiences have led families to join year-round coaching. Parents also report that their children enjoy the games and drills, look forward to each day, and enjoy spending time with their coaches.
