The Recreation Department states that it supports the vision and mission of the City by meeting the recreational needs and desires of Gonzales residents through developing, implementing, and maintaining programs, services, and facilities that are cost-effective, creative, and responsive to resident input. The program lists a coordinator, Jessica Olmedo, and a city manager, Rene Mendez, in its leadership. It notes that many city-run special events include opportunities for non-profit organizations to sell items, and that special event applications are required for large events using public space or facilities, to be completed 30 days before the event, after which a city coordinator contacts the applicant and coordinates conditions of approval. The program also states that participants can sign up on the Team Sideline website to receive text message updates and the Recreation Newsletter, and that there are rules for pool attire explained in provided documents.

The City of Gonzales Recreation Programs highlights community involvement through events sponsored by other Gonzales agencies, including a Fourth of July event sponsored by the Gonzales Rotary Club and Día Del Niño sponsored by Grupo Unidos de Gonzales, and notes a partnership with Taylor Farms as an active community partner with the City for many years. The program lists recognition related to the RWJF Culture of Health Prize, an RWJF award ceremony, and an RWJF Culture of Health Award video in English and Spanish.
