The Recreation Department states that it supports the vision and mission of the City of Gonzales by meeting the recreational needs and desires of residents through programs, services, and facilities that are cost-effective, creative, and responsive to resident input. Its stated goals include developing family programming with an emphasis on health and fitness, providing activities to residents of all ages, increasing and diversifying participation, finding additional funding sources and grants, and increasing collaboration and partnerships with community groups and other non-profits. The department notes that special event applications are required for large events using public space or facilities, that these applications must be completed 30 days before the event, and that many city-run special events offer opportunities for non-profit organizations to sell items. The program leadership includes Coordinator Jessica Olmedo and City Manager Rene Mendez, and all content is identified as © 2018 City of Gonzales.
The City of Gonzales Recreation Programs highlights that participants can sign up on the Team Sideline website to receive text message updates and the Recreation Newsletter. For aquatics, the program specifies that there are rules in place for pool attire and that documents are available explaining what is acceptable to wear and what should be avoided. Community involvement includes events sponsored by other Gonzales agencies, such as a Fourth of July event sponsored by the Gonzales Rotary Club and Día Del Niño sponsored by Grupo Unidos de Gonzales, while Cinco de Mayo is listed as needing a sponsor. The City of Gonzales also notes a long-term partnership with Taylor Farms as an active community partner and lists recognition related to the RWJF Culture of Health Prize, including an award ceremony, Courageous Conversations, a Gonzales Robert Wood Johnson Foundation page, and award videos in English and Spanish.
