About
Gualala Arts Youth Arts Programs are part of Gualala Arts, a community arts organization that has been promoting public interest and participation in the arts since 1961. The programs take place within a multi-million dollar cultural facility that is home to art exhibitions, performing arts, and community events for Mendocino and Sonoma counties. Youth activities are connected to the broader Gualala Arts offerings, which include concerts, plays, and art classes provided within public schools when school funding is limited.
Gualala Arts has been active since 1961, when it was formed to create the first Art in the Redwoods Festival, and it became a non-profit organization in 1965. The organization serves the coastal communities of Northern Sonoma and Southern Mendocino Counties and gives scholarships to local high school seniors each year. Its Art in the Redwoods Festival is presented on the third weekend in August each year and is described as one of the most prestigious art exhibitions in northern California. The leadership team includes Executive Director David “Sus” Susalla, Operations Manager Scott Chieffo, Volunteer and Events Manager Melissa Encinas, Projects Manager Elaine Delsol, Bookkeeping Services provider Jane Kelley, and Office and Publicity Manager Kendra Stillman. Gualala Arts has received an Art Champion Award presented by the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors.
