About
Coastal Rep Kids' Theatre (CRKT) & Year-Round Theatre Education Programs give students the chance to act, sing, dance, and design costumes. Participants explore all aspects of theatre and the process of creating and putting on a show. The program culminates in a performance that students can add to their repertoire of accomplishments and arsenal of life skills.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
Coastal Rep has been a mainstay on the coastside for over 40 years and is described as a key asset to the region. It is home for emerging talent as well as a family of artists from around the Bay Area and delivers programming for every age, interest, and background. The organization offers year-round arts education programs for students in K through 12th grades, with approximately 85 students enrolled per session in spring, summer, and fall, and over 2,400 students have participated in the comprehensive, year-round Coastal Rep Kids' Theatre (CRKT) program. Coastal Rep invests in vibrant year-round women-led theatre education programs for K–12 students of every ability and runs an active student performing arts program. In 2026, there will be five main stage performances plus Coastal Rep Kids' Theatre (CRKT) productions and summer camps, all set in a 158-seat theatre. Tuition by students who can pay does not cover the cost of professional leadership, costumes, and sets. Coastal Rep states that it is theater for the community by the community, enriching the community through the power and diversity of the arts and empowering the hearts and minds of youth with appreciation for the arts, confidence, and a sense of well-being. Theatre arts lovers and active volunteers find a welcoming home at Coastal Rep and become integrated into a “theatre family.”
The theatre spaces are being improved through the Gussy It Up! campaign, including new carpets and wood floors, rehearsal mirrors, fans for dressing rooms, and new lobby chairs, and Theatre 2 and the lobby are being refreshed as part of this campaign. Coastal Rep also describes itself as a home for Broadway-style live theatre productions.
