About
East Bay Youth Orchestras offers group instrumental instruction and symphonic orchestral experience through its Concert Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra. Participants take part in public concerts, and the program includes activities such as a See’s Candy Fundraiser.
• Schedule: Weekly rehearsals, with sessions ranging from 60 minutes for Concert Orchestra to two hours for Symphony Orchestra
Founded in 1986, East Bay Youth Orchestras is a community-based nonprofit organization started by parents, teachers, Cal State faculty, and music professionals to augment school instrumental programs of the San Francisco East Bay and surrounding communities. The organization is governed by a Board of Directors that is responsible for policy determination and administration of the orchestra. Leadership includes Donna McCabe as Orchestra Manager and Dr. Bill Harrington as Conductor. East Bay Youth Orchestras holds five public concerts each year in September, November, December, March, and May, and performs at various venues, usually in Hayward, California. The program lists benefits such as playing with a group with full instrumentation being good for a college resume, exposure to classical and symphonic literature from various composers, playing with quality musicians from other schools in the East Bay, challenging students to excel, obtaining performing experience, and having fun. East Bay Youth Orchestras notes that it welcomes new members to join and that sign-ups are open for the 2025–2026 season. The organization is celebrating 40 years of EBYO/YOSAC with a Winter Concert that features music from 40 years ago, including using the same sheet music as in the 1980s.
