About
East Bay Youth Orchestras offers group instrumental instruction and symphonic orchestral experience through its Prelude, Concert, and Symphony Orchestras. Participants rehearse music in an orchestral setting and take part in public concerts during the season.
• Schedule: Prelude, Concert, and Symphony Orchestras rehearse once a week, with rehearsals ranging from 60 minutes for Prelude and Concert Orchestra to two hours for Symphony Orchestra.
Founded in 1986, East Bay Youth Orchestras is a community-based nonprofit organization started by parents, teachers, Cal State faculty, and music professionals to augment school instrumental programs of the San Francisco East Bay and surrounding communities. The program includes Prelude, Concert, and Symphony Orchestras as different levels and is governed by a Board of Directors responsible for policy determination and administration of the orchestra. It holds five public concerts each year in September, November, December, March, and May, and performs at various venues, usually in Hayward, California. Listed benefits include playing with a group with full instrumentation as something that is good for a college resume, exposure to classical and symphonic literature from various composers, playing with quality musicians from other schools in the East Bay, being challenged to excel, obtaining performing experience, and the statement “IT'S FUN!” Sign-ups are open for the 2025-2026 season. The leadership team includes Donna McCabe, Orchestra Manager, and Dr. Bill Harrington, Conductor.
