Center Theater Company features productions such as 12 Angry Jurors performed by Center Theater Company and Grease: School Version and Frozen Jr. performed by Center Theater Conservatory. Artistic Director Jenny Latimer is a professional actress and director who has performed with Broadway National Tours, Off-Broadway shows, and Regional Theaters in Utah, Texas, Connecticut, Maryland, California, and New York. She has been a guest performer on America’s Got Talent and the Academy Awards, directed the world premiere of Claybourne Elder’s “Around the World in 80 Days” at Theater Raleigh, and is directing “Into the Breeches” as part of their 2021 season. She has an MFA in acting from UNC Chapel Hill, where she created and taught musical theater classes for undergraduates, and has directed a gender-bent version of Romeo and Juliet and a new work called “The Kritik.” The company states that every human deserves to feel empowered to create and that young actors are at the center of the creative process, with shows described as both by the kids and for the kids. The program encourages children to follow their impulses, suggest ideas like using a Taylor Swift song in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, try out their own costume ideas, and test out fun blocking, with the stated belief that kids gain empowerment and confidence when their voices are heard.
