About

Educational Programs at Fort Ross Conservancy offers customized programs on marine ecology and on the cultural history of Fort Ross. The programs take place within a historic Russian-era fort compound and include content on how Russians settled on the ancestral Kashia Pomo lands called Metini, where the Kashia are still part of the community today. The organization offers programming for all ages and describes Fort Ross and nearby Salt Point as the best outdoor classrooms, with access to underwater parks that include fishing, shipwrecks, and scuba diving.

Fort Ross Conservancy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and a California cooperating association that supports both Fort Ross and Salt Point State Parks. Its mission is to connect people to the history and beauty of Fort Ross and Salt Point parks. Fort Ross is designated a National Historic Landmark. The leadership team includes Ian Taylor, Managing Director; Sarah Thompson, Director of Operations; Dr. Dione Deaker, Coastal Naturalist/MEP Lead; Hank Birnbaum, Bilingual Guide, Instructor; Cayla Kalani, Visitor Center Coordinator; and Birgit Nielsen, Event Coordinator.
