Sugarloaf Ridge State Park Youth and Family Programs include hiking, camping, backpacking courses, yoga hikes, educational workshops, and stargazing. Programs take place in an area with over 25 miles of hiking trails, 47 family-sized campsites, and access to the Robert Ferguson Observatory, which is dedicated to public viewing and education and is the largest observatory in the western United States.
• Schedule: The park is open every day from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. above the kiosk, with a Day-Use Area open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and a camping area that is open daily. The Visitor Center is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and is staffed on Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., as well as Friday evenings in the summer.
• Price: Vehicles are $10 regular and $8 for seniors 62 and older, students, or current or retired military, with an annual day-use parking pass available for $59 that is also valid at Jack London State Historic Park. Buses are $50 for under 50 passengers and $100 for over 50 passengers, and school tours and high school or college organizations are free for day-use with prior coordination.
Sugarloaf Ridge State Park Youth and Family Programs take place in a setting that includes meadows, scenic rock outcroppings, redwoods, ferns, and the headwaters of Sonoma Creek, which features a 25-foot waterfall after winter rains. Camping spaces are family-friendly, alcohol-free, located in a large meadow, and bordered by a year-round stream and a hillside forest. Pets are permitted in the campground and picnic area and on paved roads in the main park area, but not on park trails or in back-country regions and roads. Entry fees may be paid at automated pay stations, an iron ranger, a staffed entry kiosk on weekends and most holidays, or at the Visitor Center when staffed, using cash or credit as specified at each location.
Sugarloaf Ridge State Park is operated by Sonoma Ecology Center and Team Sugarloaf. Sonoma Ecology Center’s Restoration Team is supported by volunteer stewards from the Good Fire Alliance, and the organization does its work on the traditional territories of the Wappo, Coastal Miwok, and Southern Pomo peoples.
