About
Camp Winnarainbow offers circus and performing arts classes where campers can try activities such as swinging on the trapeze, walking on stilts, juggling, clowning, unicycling, and songwriting. Campers also take part in stage performances, talent shows, fire circles, dance parties, and swimming in Lake Veronica.
• Ages: 7–17 years old
• Schedule: CWR offers one and two week sessions throughout the summer.
Camp Winnarainbow is an overnight camp for children ages 7–14 with a focus on circus and performing arts in the outdoors. Campers choose their daily adventures from a wide range of activities and classes, and each session ends in an Open House or Big Show where families experience camp alongside campers. The camp also offers a Teen Leadership Program for 15–17 year old leaders.
Camp Winnarainbow was founded in 1975 by Wavy Gravy and Jahanara Romney, and for 50 years kids, teens, and adults have attended the camp. Camp Winnarainbow is fully ACA accredited and operates as a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Its scholarship program, The Grace & Joy Scholarship Fund, supports campers from a wide range of economic backgrounds.
The camp’s mission states that it creates a joyful environment where children from all backgrounds develop community, self-confidence, and artistry through circus and performing arts, and that it aims to nurture leaders for a peaceful, harmonious, and sustainable future. Founder Wavy Gravy describes the community by saying, “Kids from every walk of life come together and make a kind of a universal whole at Camp. Everybody gets something from each other and we end up being a community together and filled with love. And wonder.” Another quote from Wavy Gravy about the camp is, “Survival in the 21st century or how to duck with a sense of humor and a dollop of compassion.”
