Camp Hi-Sierra offers activities such as climbing a 50 foot climbing tower, archery, rifle, shotgun, black powder, cowboy action shooting, and blacksmithing at a real blacksmith forge. Participants can swim, row, and sail at the waterfront, and also go swimming, paddling, and trout fishing at Pinecrest Lake. The program includes astronomy in an observatory, hiking 16 miles, and a snow weekend.

Camp Hi-Sierra has operated since 1949 and has delivered experiences to Scouts and families for 75 years. The camp is a Scouts BSA summer camp that is set in a historical logging camp and is fully themed as a frontier town, with four season cabins and a new dining hall. It is the summer camp of the Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council, Scouting America, and offers six weeks of nationally accredited summer programming. The camp is open all year long for four season rentals and is available for group rentals to Scout units, schools, churches, and outdoor organizations in fall, winter, and spring.
Camp Hi-Sierra features a new observatory for astronomy and a real blacksmith forge at Foxfire. The camp is the closest Scouting America camp to Yosemite National Park, and nearby options include Pinecrest Lake, Dodge Ridge’s summer trails, and the Gold Rush towns of Columbia and Jamestown. A YARTS bus from nearby Sonora to Yosemite Valley includes park admission in the fare. The land has a historical connection to the Tuolumne Band of Mi-wuk people, with visible grinding holes in rocks around camp, and Edward Jenness sold the valley to the council for ten dollars so it could become a Scout camp. Traditions at Camp Hi-Sierra include Friday’s Western BBQ and the Saga of Hi-Sierra.
Staff at Camp Hi-Sierra are described as highly skilled, very helpful, always available whenever needed, and as friendly and knowledgeable. One Scout reported enjoying seeing the solar system during new moon and viewing nebula M57 in the observatory telescope, and called Hi-Sierra a favorite place to go camping. An adult leader described a week at Camp Hi-Sierra as one of the best summer camp weeks they had ever had, during their 36th summer camp as scoutmaster. Another parent described a Scout being motivated to earn Legend status and hiking 16 miles. A camper on their first time camping said they were already missing the Camp Hi-Sierra experience, and another camper noted that an instructor made sure they were comfortable and confident when using a firearm for the first time. One Scout reported that a dietary restriction for halal food was accommodated and that the food provided was amazing. Another adult said they felt a true sense of community and belonging and noted that many units return every year. A youth camper said they love the Range and described the shooting sports staff as some of the best staff, relaxed while also focused on keeping participants safe.
